The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results will be officially released on Friday, January 9. The announcement is expected to bring clarity to nearly one million candidates who sat for the national examinations.
According to officials from the Ministry, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba will preside over the release ceremony in Eldoret, with the announcement scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
KCSE 2025 Examination Overview
The 2025 KCSE examinations concluded on November 21, 2025, following approximately five weeks of continuous testing. The examination period began on October 21, covering oral, practical, and written papers across the country.
A total of about 996,000 candidates participated in the examinations, which play a critical role in determining students’ progression to universities, colleges, and other post-secondary institutions.
Confirmation of Release Timeline
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba had earlier indicated that the KCSE results would be released within the traditional January timeline. While speaking during the Omogusii Cultural Festival held at Kenyoro School Groups in North Mugirango, the CS reaffirmed that the results would be made public within the expected period.
He emphasized that, although marking had been completed earlier, the Ministry was keen on maintaining the long-standing practice of announcing KCSE results in January.
KNEC Portal Activation Ahead of Release
In preparation for the release, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) recently activated its online results-checking portal. The portal allows parents and candidates to access results once the Ministry officially releases them.
At the time of activation, the system indicated that results would only be accessible after the official announcement. Education officials clarified that early activation is a routine process designed to ensure the platform is stable and capable of handling heavy traffic when results go live.
Once the results are released, candidates will be required to enter their KCSE index number and year of examination to view their provisional results online.
Ministry Dismisses False Claims
In a statement issued on Saturday, January 3, Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the KCSE results had already been released. He urged the public to rely only on official communication from the Ministry of Education and KNEC.
What Happens Next
Following the release, candidates will begin the process of applying for university and college placement through KUCCPS, marking the next phase in their academic journey.
